As you know, I’ve only just started blogging again after several years away.
Quite frankly, I’d forgotten how much goes into creating and maintaining an active site, let alone how much it takes for my creative process to dump itself onto a page.
I am also, admittedly, out of writing shape; I become winded quite easily these days (*she pants after writing the first three sentences*). 😉
But I’m committed.
So, to make blogging easier, especially since I’m out of shape and not as fast as I used to be (oh boy, is that ever a topic for another day!), I got to thinking about assigning themes or categories to specific days of the week (like many already do on FaceBook, other social media, and in blogs).
In LabTails, my image-heavy blog of the late 1990s and 2000s, I opted for “Wordless Wednesday” to provide one day each week when I could post only pictures. No writing required (except, of course, titling). I gave my word-crafting muscles a break and still felt like I’d created a bonafide blog entry. Win. Win.
Sometimes I turned Wordless Wednesday into a theme whose thread wove through several pictures in the same post; other times Wordless Wednesday offered a captioning challenge in which I asked the Reader to provide a caption or thought bubble for a single image.
In either case, Wednesdays became picture day for me; my show-no-tell day.
While I still want to include a rest-my-writing-process post each week now as I return, I don’t think I want to repeat Wordless Wednesdays. Nor do I want to jump in on current social media hashtag trends like #ManicMondays or #TransformationTuesdays (gag) or #FoodieFridays.
But what I could do is assign one day a week to my canine crew (instant topic!).
Maybe it could be Mutt Monday. Except three of the our dogs are purebreds, not mutts. Nope, that won’t do.
Ooooo….better yet, skip Mondays. Since each member of our current canine crew is a wigglebutt (as my kitchen towel in the picture proves), Wednesdays could become “Wigglebutt Wednesday,” and I could devote those days to my four-legged, wiggly-butted canine kids.
That will work. Wigglebutt Wednesday it is. 😀
But because my writing muscles have lost so much tone during my time off (imagine a sleeveless summertime chorale conducted by an ancient choir director whose flabby triceps swing with the upbeat as she waves her spindly baton–that’s me, the choir director’s triceps), I’m thinking I might need a second day of pre-determined category for my blog’s topics (it helps whittle down my growing idea pile to make it easier for scatterbrained me to focus). I could do a second theme day for now, at least until I further hone my writing skills and firm my flabby creativity.
My readers from long ago knew then, and still know now, that I love giggle factor (for an example of giggle factor from LabTails click here). Maybe I should create a “Friday Funny” habit — a day when I could write regularly or post images about things that tickle my funny bone. Things that make me grin or chuckle or guffaw (I like that word) or that lighten my day.
Be forewarned: I’m not a comedian, nor do I pretend to be. I can’t even remember jokes let alone tell them to others (I wish I could). I am decidedly not funny in real life. (Happy, generally light-hearted, and postive, yes; funny, no).
Maybe because I’m not funny, I’ve made it a habit to look for humor in the ordinary. Much in my life makes me chuckle. And I do try to surround myself with giggle factor. I think I’d like to share some of the giggle factor I enjoy in life with my readers (okay, so now maybe there are 20 of you). If I can, I’d like to lighten your load (and mine in the process).
Yeah… I think I’ll go with Wigglebutt Wednesday and The Friday Funny.
What do you think?
Hey, and did you see what I did there? I came up with a blog topic by trying to figure out what my blog topic would be for today. Another win win.
Thanks for helping me process!

Hehehe, m4rose … and *groan* — killer joke! I had a music teacher in 5th and 6th whose swinging-along triceps kept me so distracted I could barely sing. 🙂 That was the exact visual that came to mind. Oh, the things that pop into this mid-life brain!
